Last week our book study, literacy, and math themes were all about The Gingerbread Man.
I showed my students several versions of the story that we have in our classroom:
I have a few plush Gingerfriends that students may 'read' to during Reading Time.
Since we have school three days per week, we focused on comparing three different versions of the story.
Here is my graphic organizer that served as our story comparison chart:
This idea is from Abby, whose chart you can find here.
My students got really excited when a new version of the story was read! They listened really carefully for similarities and differences from the other books.
We focused on comparing the stories' characters, the Gingerbread Man's refrain, and on what happened to the Gingerbread Man at the end of the story.
They were also excited when a story had a Gingerbread Girl in it...and that she 'outfoxed' the fox!
We made Gingerbread Man puppets for story retelling:
The template is from Kinder Teacher, and can be found here.
We practiced teen numbers in Math, and used Fran's awesome cut & paste sheet, found here.
We also did a gingerbread man number practice page
and a gingerbread man letter practice page from Crystal of Kreative in Kinder. Both can be found here.
This great gingerbread graph is from Fran over at Kindergarten Crayons:
And of course tons of Gingerbread math & literacy fun:
