Latest Kindergarten Literacy Center Activities

Here are the five literacy work stations that my students have been rotating through this week:

SYLLABLE CLAPPING

Taking turns, students draw a card from the pile.

Wearing their clapping gloves {98 cent gloves from WalMart} they clap the word to figure out how many syllables it has...the gloves keep the noise level down :)

When they have figured out how many syllables are in the word, they put the card on the mat with that corresponding number.

WRITE-STAMP-DECORATE

Students write, stamp, and decorate the newest sight words that we've learned.

SIGHT WORD BOOK

Our latest sight word booklet is called "The Snowman", from Hubbard's Cupboard.

WRITE THE ROOM

My students keep so busy with this activity! Using clipboards and task sheets, they set out to fill in their forms with words they find around the classroom.

One side of their page has a specific task- they need to find words that have a certain letter in it. The other side of the page is open-ended, where they can print whatever they like!

 FYI: I have created bundles of month-long literacy centers, to make things easy for Kindergarten teachers!

The packs include literacy activities in these 5 areas of learning:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words) 
4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.
