My class started their spring bird projects by painting half of a paper plate blue

and the other half brown.

As the paint was left to dry, they began working on their birds. They could choose to make a robin, a blue jay, or a cardinal. The bird outlines had been traced onto construction paper. They added a googly eye and used scrap orange paper to create a beak.

Those who made robins added some red paper to make the robin's red breast.

The birds' nests were made from shredded tissue, craft moss, and even some small twigs from outside.

Students covered the brown half of their paper plate with glue and added the materials to make the bird nests.
