CHRISTMAS MATH CENTERS
In this last week before Christmas holidays, we are doing lots of fun math centers featuring nutcrackers in Kindergarten!
MEASUREMENT
Students measured the nutcrackers using Unifix cubes, Christmas themed mini erasers, and even sparkly pompoms and recorded their findings on their worksheets. It's a fun hands-on learning activity that was one of their favorites!
NUMBER MATCH
Students matched the numbers with the corresponding number words. They also used the cards as flashcards for number recognition practice.
PATTERNS
This Christmas math center activity was great for pattern recognition and extension, and students were engaged with manipulating the pieces to extend the patterns.
ADDITION
Students added the nutcrackers to find the answers and recorded their findings onto the worksheets.
COUNTING
This activity can be done at a table or even as a 'write the room' type activity. I guess it would be 'count the room' :) Students looked for cards with the matching letters, then wrote down how many nutcrackers were on that card to practice their counting skills.
GRAPHING
This math center activity was great for sorting practice. Students sorted the nutcrackers, then recorded how many of each there were on their graphs.
NUMBER PRINTING
Students practiced printing numerals correctly by tracing the dashed lines on the worksheets.
SIZE SERIATION
Students sorted the nutcrackers and put them in order by size, from smallest to largest.
TEN FRAMES
Using Christmas themed mini erasers, students practiced building 10 frames and one-to-one correspondence.
ORDINAL NUMBERS
The nutcracker cards are great for practicing ordinal numbers! Have students make a row where 'The first nutcracker has a drum, the last nutcracker has a red hat", etc.
