RHYMING ACTIVITIES
We're getting ready for Dr. Seuss month by practicing our rhyming skills.
In this activity, they match the puppy to its bone and ball.
Wearing heart glasses during Valentine's week makes the activity even more fun :)
LISTENING CENTER
This time, the book was Clifford's First Valentine's Day.
They listened to the story, then filled in a student response form.
SIGHT WORD BOOK
We practiced the story on a pocket chart, then read from the sight word book. Students highlighted the sight words in the story, and copied the sight words onto a page that will be put on their fridge at home.
For a typical small group lesson, see {here}.
The sight words go onto our High Five chart, located beside our classroom door.
Students say the word as they high five it on their way out!
WORD DOCTOR
Students wear doctor gear as they piece together student names {written on bones}.
They record their findings on the Word Surgery Results page.
This activity is from Reagan at Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits, and can be found {here} for FREE!
UPDATE: I have created all-new bundles of month-long literacy centers, to make things easy for Kindergarten teachers!
The packs include literacy activities in these 5 areas of learning:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words) 4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.
