There are some children's books that are great to use when teaching about the sequence of a story. A few that I use are the "Old Lady" books by Lucille Colandro and Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin.

Another way we sequenced the story's events is through this student cut & paste work page:

THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO...
swallowed some leaves
swallowed a bat
swallowed some snow
swallowed a rose
I hand out pictures from the story to my students before I read the book. They really have to be listening, so they will know when they have to add their picture to the story retelling anchor chart.
The picture pieces have Velcro on the back, so they are easy to stick on {and take off for next time}.
I have created a pack that includes sequencing pictures for all 12 'Old Lady' books by Lucille Colandro, an anchor chart, AND a book companion for EVERY story!
The anchor chart and sequencing pictures have all been updated since the pictures above :) Find it {here}
I have created a great pack for color learning- find it {here}
Where can I find the Pete the Cat cut and paste sequencing worksheet?
