The Mitten by Jan Brett is a student favorite! It's my classroom's top winter read aloud, and we do lots of fun and engaging literacy activities based on this book.

THE MITTEN BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS

In the story, Hedgie the hedgehog finds a mitten in the snow. Since he's cold from the wintery weather, he climbs inside to get warm and toasty. When other forest animals notice what Hedgie has done, they decide to head inside the mitten to warm up too! The animals go into the mitten from smallest to largest, which makes this story great for sequencing...and makes it so funny that they can all squeeze into a regular sized mitten. That is, until a mouse arrives, causing the bear to sneeze...read the book to find out what happens next!
