Here is our latest round of Literacy Activities:
PLAYDOH SIGHT WORDS
My students are using PlayDoh to form sight words from our Word Wall. A definite favorite center this week!
RAINBOW WRITING
This group of students is practicing letter recognition and letter formation as they 'rainbow write' them using at least 4 different colors.

INITIAL SOUND LETTER MATCH
HANDWRITING BOOKS
These students are practicing their handwriting by copying words onto the correct letter pages. The books are from Michelle Rist {here}.
GRAB & DAB
Students take turns pulling a magnetic letter out of the bag. They put the letter that was pulled onto the magnetic board, then use Bingo daubers to stamp the letter on their page.

LISTENING CENTER
This week's selection was The Snowy Day. After the story was read, students traced the title, illustrated their favorite part of the story, and colored in a face to show how they felt about the book.

Most kiddos did not enjoy this story!?

UPDATE 2015: I have created bundles of month-long literacy centers, to make things easy for Kindergarten teachers!
The packs include literacy activities in these 5 areas of learning:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words) 4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your listening center record idea! I like having my kiddos listen to books on tape, and this will help me see if they understood the story, especially since they are ESL students!
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! thanks for sharing this one, will use these to entertain my 2 boys. My second is still 6 months so this is perfect to teach him.
