This round of Literacy Activities includes a lot of fun featuring our favorite cat, Pete!
PETE THE CAT PLAYDOH SIGHT WORD STAMPING
On the top of the mat, students rolled out the PlayDoh and used letter stamps to stamp the sight words.
At the bottom of the mat they used PlayDoh to form the sight words.
The word cards are an amazing freebie from Christie at First Grade Fever {here}
TIP:
Last year I was convinced I needed to purchase these in order to do the activity
{at $36.95+shipping}:
...but letter stamps work great!!! {and they're FREE because I already have them}
PETE THE CAT COLOR WORDS LETTER TILES
Another free activity, this one from Making Learning Fun {here}
Students are using letter tiles to practice word colors. I love how Pete's shoes match the color words!
LISTENING CENTER
After listening to the story/song, students filled in a response page, making a picture of the main character and indicating how they felt about the story.
GEOBOARD LETTERS
And yet another free resource, this one from Making Learning Fun {here}
This activity is a great way to get students to really focus on the shape of the letters, and has students using lots of tactile, fine motor skills to accomplish the task.
HANDWRITING BOOKS
We continue to work our way through Michelle's Handwriting book {here}
VALENTINE'S DAY WRITE THE ROOM
Valentine's Day themed pictures are hanging all over the classroom. Students are seeking them out, then copying the words onto the correct lines. Lots of Valentine's Day vocabulary practice happening as they participate in this active learning!

LITERACY CENTRE ROTATION BOARD
Here's a pic of my activity rotation board. They participate in one activity per day, then the name cards get moved over one space for the next time...until they've completed all five!

I created a companion pack that goes perfectly with color learning!

UPDATE 2015: I have created bundles of month-long literacy centers, to make things easy for Kindergarten teachers!
The packs include literacy activities in these 5 areas of learning:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words) 4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.
