FAVORITE VALENTINE'S DAY BOOKS FOR KIDS
Valentine's Day is almost here! Here is a list of our favorite Valentine's Day read alouds for Kindergarten and First Grade, and book activities and crafts to go with each one!
A CRANKENSTEIN VALENTINE
This book is sure to make your students laugh! Crankenstein is a regular kid who turns into 'Crankenstein' because he hates all the lovey-dovey yuckiness associated with Valentine's Day...until he finds someone else who feels the same! It's written by Samantha Berger.
THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS
This is a very popular Valentine's Day book, written by Felicia Bond. In it Cornelia Augusta makes special Valentines for each of her friends, made from the unique hearts that unexpectedly rain down from the sky.
LOVE, SPLAT
On Valentine's Day, Splat wants to give his crush, Kitten, a special card he made himself. Unfortunately another classmate, Spike, also wants to win her heart. A cute story by Rob Scotton.
JUNIE B JONES AND THE MUSHY GUSHY VALENTINE
During her class Valentine Card exchange, Junie B. Jones receives a mushy gushy Valentine from a 'Secret Admirer'. Of course she needs to figure out who gave it to her! This fun story is by Barbara Park.
SCAREDY SQUIRREL MAKES A FRIEND
Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend is technically not a Valentine's Day book, but it IS all about friendship, and that is the theme we try to promote in our class during Valentine's Day (and throughout February). In this fun story, Scaredy Squirrel makes lists of what requirements are necessary to be a perfect friend and how to make a friend. Written by Melanie Watt.
Do you have some to add to the list? I'd love to hear about them- please share them below!
