FAVORITE CHRISTMAS BOOKS & HOLIDAY READ ALOUDS FOR KIDS
'Tis the season to get out your favorite Christmas books!
Here is a list of ten Christmas read alouds that kids absolutely LOVE, and some fun holiday reading resources to go with each one!
HOW TO CATCH SANTA
This fun book by Jean Reagan has children planning out ways to catch Santa on Christmas eve. My activity pack explores the book and includes planning pages where students can devise their own ways they would try to catch Santa!
OLIVE THE OTHER REINDEER
Olive the dog hears a line from a Christmas song 'all of the other reindeer' and thinks it's 'Olive the other reindeer'. She becomes Santa's helper and saves Christmas!
THE POLAR EXPRESS
Kids love this Christmas classic written by Chris Van Allsburg. It is a Caldecott Medal award winner, and has been translated into stage productions and a movie.
MRS. WISHY-WASHY'S CHRISTMAS
We LOVE Mrs. Wishy-Washy, and this adorable book features Mrs. Wishy-Washy and her animal friends...all about making mistakes, being sorry, receiving forgiveness, and showing love. The spirit of Christmas at its best!
THE GINGERBREAD MAN
There are so many versions of this story! I love this one by Eric A. Kimmel- it has fun characters, and a refrain that students love to chant together.
DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE SLEIGH
Our favorite Pigeon is back for Christmas in Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh. Santa needs your class to watch the sleigh for a bit. Will they let Pigeon drive the sleigh?
THE GINGERBREAD GIRL
Christmas time means gingerbread! Kids love how the Gingerbread Girl outsmarts the fox and escapes the fate of her brother.
MOOSELTOE
This fun Christmas story is about a father moose who works very hard to make Christmas 'perfectly perfect' for his family, but he forgets to get something very important! He saves the day thanks to his giant 'moostache' and antlers!
SNOWMEN AT CHRISTMAS
Similar to Snowmen at Night, this book leads its readers to imagine what snowmen do at Christmas time!
