WINTER BOOKS AND ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS
Oh the weather outside is frightful...so let's talk favorite books for the winter season!
Here is a list of ten winter themed books that kids absolutely LOVE, and some fun resources and activities to go with each one!
THE MITTEN
A winter classic, The Mitten by Jan Brett is a book that all kids LOVE! This book is great for sequencing events, story retell, and of course a good laugh!
FROGGY GETS DRESSED
Kids just love Froggy, and this is one of their favorites! Froggy wakes up in winter (a great springboard for discussion on hibernation) and decides to go out to play...but it doesn't really work out so well for him.
THE MITTEN TREE
The Mitten Tree is a fun book because it is a mystery...who knits the mittens and leaves them on the tree?! It's also a sweet story about giving to those in need.
THE JACKET I WEAR IN THE SNOW
The character in this story has a very difficult time getting dressed to play outside in the snow. From bunchy, itchy clothes to a zipper that gets stuck, I think we all know this child. A wonderful book for story retell and sequencing the order of the clothing, as well as receiving help when we need it.
SNEEZY THE SNOWMAN
Kids love Sneezy because he keeps doing things that make him melt! It's a good thing he has friends to help rescue him from his poor choices.
SNOWMEN AT NIGHT
What do snowmen do at night? Your students will LOVE to make predictions and guess!
TACKY THE PENGUIN
Poor Tacky the Penguin is an awkward fellow. But when he needs to, he becomes a real hero!
THE SNOW GLOBE FAMILY
Ever imagine what it would be like to live in a snow globe? Your class will love finding out what this snow globe family likes to do!
OWL MOON
Your class will love joining the characters in this book as they go owling on a cold winter's night.
FIVE LITTLE PENGUINS SLIPPING ON THE ICE
What happens when five little penguins go out slipping on the ice? And what does the doctor tell mama when the penguins get hurt?
