I begin every year in Kindergarten with a Nursery Rhymes unit. I do this for many reasons. Most children came to school knowing a few of the rhymes, and this familiarity makes them more comfortable- which is pretty important when beginning a new school year or even starting school for the first time.
I also love how Nursery Rhymes can be used to teach essential literacy and numeracy skills, such as rhyme, cause & effect, sequence of events, counting, and more!
We always wrap up our Nursery Rhymes unit with Nursery Rhyme Olympic games. Keep reading to find out more :)
