A Year of First Grade Writing Centers

Teaching writing can be tough- especially when you have students who have low confidence or are not interested in writing because they never know what to write about!

I faced this problem every year. Some students were nervous to make mistakes and others could never come up with what to write about, and sat there 'thinking' the whole class period!

I came up with a pack of 1st Grade Writing Centers that offer SO MANY options that they can't help but be drawn to one and begin writing.

STICKER STORIES

Students have so much fun writing sticker stories! They choose a few stickers and place them on their page, then write a story about it. 

96 ILLUSTRATED WRITING PROMPTS

 96 illustrated word cards can be made into flipbooks where students can choose word to use in their stories. And they don't need to worry about spelling the words wrong, as they can copy from the booklets. Tons of topics and themes are included. They are like mini portable Word Walls for the writing center!

GENERIC STATIONERY

28 WRITE THE ROOM PAGES

These Write the Room activities will help students practice reading, writing, and word work skills. They will search for words that contain specific spelling patterns like blends, digraphs, long vowels, etc. Other pages will have students recording their words using various writing tools including colored pencils, markers, letter stamps, and more! Some Write the Room activities involve students recording their words in a specific way, including, alphabetical order, by number of syllables, etc. And other activities involve students using the words in sentences, stories, or illustrations.
