Who doesn't love nutcrackers this time of year?
I've incorporated this into a math center theme for Kindergarten and First Grade!
Your students will have lots of fun learning math skills using this Christmas themed hands-on activity pack!
MEASUREMENT
Students used many different items to measure their nutcrackers, including Unifix cubes, sparkly pompoms, and Christmas themed mini erasers. They recorded their answers on the corresponding worksheet.
TEN FRAMES
Students used Christmas themed mini erasers to fill in the ten frames. This activity is great for one-to-one correspondence practice as well.
MATCHING NUMBERS AND NUMBER WORDS
Students matched the number words with the numbers. They also used the number cards as flashcards, to practice number recognition from 1-12.
SIZE SERIATION
This activity had students sorting the nutcrackers and putting them in order according to size, from smallest to largest.
PATTERNS
This patterns activity was great for recognizing patterns and then extending them with the nutcracker that would come next in the sequence.
ADDITION
Students added the nutcrackers together and recorded their answers on the worksheet.
COUNTING
Students looked at the cards and counted the nutcrackers, then recorded their answers on the worksheet. This activity can be used as a 'write the room' activity as well (or 'count the room') by posting the cards around the classroom for students to find.
NUMBER PRINTING
SORTING & GRAPHING
Students sorted the nutcrackers, then recorded how many there were of each type on the graph worksheet.
ORDINAL NUMBERS
These nutcrackers are great for having students practice ordinal numbers, by saying things like "Put the nutcracker with the drum in second place in the row" etc.
