Here are our favorite Jan Brett winter books we love to read in Kindergarten:
THE MITTEN
Students can relate to Nicki losing a mitten in the snow...but Jan Brett makes the story fun by having several forest animals burrow inside of the mitten to stay warm. From a tiny field mouse to a large bear, they all squeeze in! A cute story with a fun ending, The Mitten is a great book to teach about sequencing events and characters in the story.

THE HAT
Poor Hedgie gets a stocking stuck on his prickles, and now it looks like he's wearing a hat. To make matters worse, the other animals tease him about it. Hedgie gets the last laugh though! The Hat is a great book to teach about dealing with others.

Our favorite character Hedgie is back in Jan Brett's newest book. This time Hedgie wants to forgo his snowy nap so that he can stay awake and see what winter is like. The Snowy Nap is a great book to teach about winter, winter activities, and the beauty of the season.
