WE ARE THE GARDENERS
I am in LOVE with Joanna Gaines' picture book We Are the Gardeners. It is a wonderful spring themed children's book that brings out important lessons and plant and gardening information within a story of a family of young gardeners. This cross-curricular read aloud is perfect for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade!
WE ARE THE GARDENERS BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
Your students will love learning about gardening, and the important lesson that we don't give up when things don't work out the first time: every failure teaches us something and makes us braver for the next time!
I've made a book study for We Are the Gardeners. It's packed with reading companion activities to go with this read aloud. These fun Common Core aligned literacy ideas and guided reading activities are perfect for a spring theme!
Your students will do activities that will teach them about plants and gardening! Garden posters are included in the unit. Your students will also work on literacy skills as they work on story elements, character traits, making inferences, problem and solution, main idea, making text to self connections, vocabulary, writing activities, reading comprehension, and much more!
These activities can be used for whole class learning, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student, and you're ready to go!
These reading activities will save you tons of planning time, are no prep, and are great to leave for a sub.
