THE LITTLE RED HEN
The Little Red Hen is a classroom favorite read aloud in Kindergarten! I've always introduced the story in the spring to tie into the themes about plants and gardening as well as our theme of food and the food groups. This classic book, along with these reading activities, make teaching The Little Red Hen fun and engaging in Kindergarten and First Grade!
THE LITTLE RED HEN BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
I like to read several versions of the story. There may be differing characters in the story, but the theme and important lesson is always the same.
I have included many different character cards, to reflect the various versions of the story.
The Little Red Hen is always industrious and hard-working. She is determined and knows that if she wants something to get done, she may have to do it herself (and she does!)
Her friends, however, like to lounge about and do anything but work...
The Little Red Hen sure makes for great discussion! Students love to share their opinions and give advice :)
This complete book study unit is packed with literacy activities aligned to meet Common Core, TEKS and VA SOL standards. There is a checklist of all of the standards covered in the pack!
This literacy unit includes a class book, which will be a favorite in your classroom library. Students love reading books with pages made by their classmates (and themselves)!

THE LITTLE RED HEN CRAFTS
To wrap up the story of the Little Red Hen, these craftivities make a cute bulletin board display, to showcase student learning. I have made two different craft options to go with the book!
The Little Red Hen book companion will save you tons of time, is no prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
