AMELIA BEDELIA
Amelia Bedelia is a FAVORITE character of mine! I remember reading about her silliness as a child, and later in life reading about them to my own kids and to my students in the classroom. Students in First Grade and Second Grade love Amelia Bedelia's antics! This read aloud, paired with these book companion activities, will help students practice essential literacy and reading comprehension skills in a fun and engaging way!
AMELIA BEDELIA BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
In the original series of books by Peggy Parish, Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper to Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. She takes her instructions literally...which causes the fun happenings in the story! Because words often have more than one meaning, or there are sayings that are not meant to be taken literally, Amelia Bedelia does many silly things!
Amelia Bedelia often feels as though the things on her to-do list are strange requests, but she does them anyway because she does not want to disappoint her employers. For example, when tasked to 'dust the furniture', Amelia Bedelia puts dust on the furniture rather than wiping it off of the furniture. Silly antics like this make for entertaining reading!
Mr. and Mrs. Rogers are ready to fire Amelia Bedelia for not doing her job properly...until they realize the problem, and make their to-do list instructions more clear. Eg. 'un-dust the furniture'
They also love that Amelia Bedelia bakes amazing pies!
