WHEELS ON THE BUS
Every child knows the words to the song Wheels on the Bus! It's a fun back to school favorite, with lots of actions to go along with the rhyme. In the song/action rhyme/book the characters take a ride in a bus around the town. I like the book Wheels on the Bus by Raffi. This fun read aloud, paired with these book companion activities, will help students in Kindergarten and First Grade practice important literacy and reading comprehension skills in an engaging way!
WHEELS ON THE BUS BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
Most students have some experience with riding on a bus. This bus, and its passengers, make lots of different sounds as they ride around the town. They also see lots of things and there are many types of people having a ride! These picture cards are perfect for sorting, to help students visually sequence the events in the story.
This book study unit is packed with fun activities that will help your Kindergarten and First Grade students with story elements, making predictions, character traits, making text to self connections, author's purpose, main idea, making inferences, vocabulary, writing, giving opinions and advice, problem and solution, story retell, reading comprehension, and much more!
These activities can be used for whole class instruction, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student and you're ready to go!
WHEELS ON THE BUS CLASS BOOK
This class book has students sharing what they might see if they rode the bus all around the town. After students complete filling in their template page, compile the pages to form a book. It will be a student favorite in your classroom library!
WHEELS ON THE BUS INTERACTIVE BOOKLET
There is an activity booklet included in the unit, where students can cut and paste the pictures into the story, then read it to themselves!
WHEELS ON THE BUS CRAFT
This Wheels on the Bus craftivity has students draw and write about their own bus ride! This is a great follow-up activity after reading the book, and the craft makes a fun bulletin board display to showcase student learning.
This Wheels on the Bus book companion will save you tons of planning time, is no prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
