THE HALLO-WIENER
Your Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students will LOVE The Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey for a Halloween themed read aloud! The message of kindness vs bullying is precious!
THE HALLO-WIENER BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
Poor Oscar! He gets teased by the other dogs about his looks. They call him a wiener dog, and Oscar hates that! And to make matters worse, Oscar's mom dresses him as a hotdog for Halloween. He's a Hallo-Wiener!
On Halloween night, the other dogs run into some trouble near the spooky graveyard. They end up in a pond, and need help! Fortunately for them, Oscar does not hold a grudge. He jumps in the water to rescue them, and because of his Hallo-Wiener costume he is able to save the day!
I have created a pack of reading activities to go with The Hallo-Wiener. This book study contains activities that help connect this engaging Halloween read aloud with important reading skills.
Your Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students will have fun while learning about choosing kindness over bullying and helping those who need it (even when they're mean!)
Your students will practice reading activities that work on story elements, character traits, story retell, writing activities, problem & solution, and MUCH more! The activities in this literacy unit are aligned with Common Core, TEKS, and VA SOL learning standards. Checklists for these standards are included in the unit, so you can keep track of all of the learning standards that are being met while using this unit!
This book study unit can be used for whole class learning, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student and you're ready to go!
THE HALLO-WIENER CRAFT
The Hallo-Wiener unit includes a craftivity where students can write a story retell, or write and illustrate their favorite part of the story. This craft makes a great Halloween bulletin board display, to showcase student learning.
The Hallo-Wiener companion unit will save you tons of time, is no prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
