THE GINGERBREAD GIRL
When reading various versions of the Gingerbread Man to my Kindergarten class, I remember how excited they were to find out that there was one about a Gingerbread Girl! This read aloud by Lisa Campbell Ernst had them hooked!
THE GINGERBREAD GIRL BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
They loved how she was a sister to the Gingerbread Man. And how she begins the story acting as her brother once did, as she pops out of the oven and runs away!
The class book we wrote together has students using their imaginations and writing about where the Gingerbread Girl should run to.
Of course, the Gingerbread Girl gets chased by those who want to eat her, just like her brother. And she meets the sly fox, too! Will the Gingerbread Girl end up as the fox's lunch, like her brother the Gingerbread Man?
Nope! My students loved how the Gingerbread Girl outfoxed the fox! She also trained him to have better manners :) What a fun twist on the story of the Gingerbread Man!
We used these book activities to dig into the story. This unit contains literacy printables, reading companion activities, lesson ideas, a class book, and a craft and is perfect for Kindergarten and First Grade.
I used this book study as a whole class activity, but it can also be used during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student and you're ready to go!
THE GINGERBREAD GIRL CRAFT
This craft has students writing about what they would do if they were the Gingerbread Girl. Always fun to read their stories :) This craftivity looks great as a bulletin board display!
THE GINGERBREAD GIRL CLASS BOOK
This companion unit will save you tons of time, is no prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
It includes so many activities that you can differentiate to suit your students' learning abilities and needs.
