THE CRIPPLED LAMB
The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado is a precious Christmas story with a religious theme. It is written from the perspective of the animals in the stable, and what they witnessed on that first Christmas eve. This read aloud is perfect for Kindergarten and First Grade during the Christmas season.
THE CRIPPLED LAMB BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS
The main character is a crippled lamb named Josh. He is with a flock of sheep, but is having a difficult time keeping up with the others because of his crippled leg. So the shepherd takes Josh to a stable to rest while the shepherds and the other sheep go on their way. This makes Josh sad, and he feels left out.
Fortunately Josh's sweet friend Abigail the cow is in the barn, and she offers him comfort.
That evening, an amazing thing happened in the stable. The Saviour is born! Josh and Abigail were there to witness it all firsthand. If Josh's leg hadn't been crippled, he would have been in the fields and would have missed this beautiful moment. Now he knows why he was a crippled lamb.
I have made a unit packed with book activities, literacy printables, reading comprehension companion activities, lesson ideas, and a craft to go with The Crippled Lamb. It's perfect for Kindergarten and First Grade at Christmas. This book study is packed with activities that will help your students work on story elements, character traits, story retell, writing activities, problem & solution, making text to self connections, making inferences, define the author's purpose, and more.
This book study can be used as a whole class activity, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student and you're ready to go!
THE CRIPPLED LAMB CRAFT
The craftivity has students making text to self connections, writing about what they would do if they were like Josh. This craft makes a wonderful bulletin board display, to showcase student learning.
This Crippled Lamb book companion unit will save you tons of time, is no prep, and is great to leave for a sub!
