CRANKENSTEIN

Crankenstein is the first book in the Crankenstein series by Samantha Berger. Your Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students will LOVE this read aloud! In it, we meet 'Crankenstein', who is actually a regular kid...that is, until he gets cranky! Then he turns into a Crankenstein! I'm sure many students can relate to the main character in the story :)

CRANKENSTEIN BOOK ACTIVITIES AND TEACHING IDEAS

When Crankenstein has to wake up for school, he is cranky. He is also a Crankenstein when he runs out of syrup for his pancakes, has to wait in long lines, and on boring, rainy days.

Crankenstein can also be found when it's time to take cough syrup, when it's bedtime, and when his popsicle melts on a hot summer day.

Crankenstein acts differently, however, when he meets another Crankenstein. When he sees how he is acting, reflected in another person, it is actually really funny!

That is, until something happens to make him cranky again!

I have made a Crankenstein book study with companion activities that help to connect this engaging read aloud with important literacy reading skills.

This book study unit is packed with activities that will help your students work on story elements, character traits, story retell, writing activities, problem & solution, making text to self connections, and making inferences.

The unit also has activities to help students develop story vocabulary, define the author's purpose, think about the story's main idea or theme, offer opinions and advice, recognize character development, notice cause & effect relationships, and check for understanding with reading comprehension questions.

The activities in this literacy unit are aligned with Common Core, TEKS, and VA SOL learning standards. Checklists for these standards are included in the unit, to assist with lesson planning.

This Crankenstein book study unit can be used as a whole class activity, during small group guided reading time, as individual student work, or as part of a book club. Copy a pack for each student and you're ready to go!
