FREE Gingerbread Man and Gingerbread Girl writing craft with templates and headers for Kindergarten and First Grade

Tis the season for all things gingerbread! Every December I tried to incorporate as many different versions of the gingerbread man books as I could during our gingerbread themed week. My Kindergarten students always LOVED to imagine that a cookie that's been pulled out of the oven comes to life and runs away, resulting in a big chase! They loved hearing the different versions of these read alouds too, noticing how the story had similarities and differences.

After reading a book about the gingerbread man or gingerbread girl, we made some notes on this big chart of story comparisons. It was a fun way to compare and contrast the different versions of the story. Sometimes there were different characters, sometimes a different refrain, and sometimes the endings were different.

We worked on reading literacy activities to go with the books. They were packed with comprehension activities that helped us dig deeper into the stories.

To wrap up the gingerbread man stories, we made a fun gingerbread man craftivity. The crafts were perfect to display on a bulletin board, to showcase student learning and create a holiday themed display.
