Don't Touch That Flower by Alice Hemming is a fun read aloud for spring! This book is great to use for a spring plant theme, to teach your Kindergarten and First Grade students about plants and how to care for flowers. Don't Touch That Flower features the characters Squirrel and Bird from our fall favorite read aloud The Leaf Thief. Squirrel notices a pretty little flower growing close to his house, and Bird explains that it is now spring. Squirrel claims the flower as his own, and does many different things in order to 'protect' his flower. Bird explains that each of these actions does not actually help the flower, but harms it. This book offers great opportunities to discuss plant growth and what flowers need in order to thrive! The book also reminds us that wildflowers are for everyone to enjoy.
